Margie Bowen, Assistant Director
Margie is in her 10th year working on the Atlanta Campus in Rec Sports and Wellness. Overlapping her career at Mercer, Margie taught Health and Physical Education in DeKalb County School for 42 years. She was a successful head coach of gymnastics, soccer and volleyball during her career, as well as assistant coach in many other sports. In addition to coaching, Margie was the director of a Southern Volleyball League club in metro Atlanta. Receiving her M.Ed from the University of Georgia, Margie has always been involved in teaching others to have fun through fitness and sports. She is married to her high school sweetheart, has 2 married daughters, and 4 wonderful grandchildren.
In addition to her responsibilities in organizing rec and wellness activities for students and staff, Margie schedules the usage of the rec facilities for those inside and outside of the university. She is also the contact for Atlanta faculty and staff who particpate in Healthy U.
Todd Thomas, Director of Recreational Sports & Wellness

Todd is in his 4th full year as Director of Mercer's Recreational Sports & Wellness programs and 9th overall year in the department. Todd has a combined 14 years of recreational sports experience. He began his career in the field as an intramural sports official at Georgia Southern University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcasting. Following his time in Statesboro, Todd served as the Graduate Assistant for Intramurals and Sport Clubs at Ohio University for one year where he obtained his Master of Science in Recreational and Sport Sciences. Following the completion of his studies Todd began his professional career with Mercer in the Fall of 2008.
As well as oversight over all departmental programs, Todd has primary coverage of Mercer's Aquatics, Outdoor Sports, and Sport Club programs. In his spare time Todd officiates high school basketball and football in the Middle GA area.
Michael Castaneda, Assistant Director

Michael is in his 4th year as the Assistant Director of Recreational Sports & Wellness at Mercer. He began his career as an Intramural Sports Official at Loyola University-New Orleans before transferring to Kennesaw State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise & Health Sciences. After his undergraduate studies, Michael served for two years as the Graduate Assistant of Intramural Sports at the University of Kentucky, achieving a Master of Science in Kinesiology and Health Promotions with a focus on Exercise Physiology. Michael began his professional career at Mercer in the Fall of 2014.
Michael’s primary coverage within the department are Mercer’s Intramural Sports and Group Fitness programs. In addition, Michael officiates high school basketball in the Middle Georgia area.
Talyn Sands, Graduate Assistant

Talyn is a first year Graduate Student in the Recreational Sports & Wellness Department. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism with an emphasis in Sport Management. Talyn began her career as a Campus Recreation Intern at Samford University in Birmingham, AL. After interning for a school year, she accepted a professional position as a Campus Recreation Coordinator and Residence Director at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, where she served in her role for 2 years.
Talyn's primary focus will be in the Intramural Sports Department, however, you can find her assisting in all other programs in the Recreational Sports & Wellness Department.
